I have been there, you feel dirty on the inside, you are so bloated that you look pregnant and not even 12 cups of coffee can energise you or help you get through the day. You know you desperately need to detox, but you can not look another salt water flush or juice diet in the eye.

But just in case you are not sure if you are in need of a detox, here are some clues. 14 of them to be exact:

  • Sugar Cravings
  • Constipation
  • Bloating
  • Gas
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Aches and Pains
  • Nausea
  • Belly Fat that is hard to lose
  • Skin Problems
  • Food Cravings (especially for processed foods)
  • Low Energy
  • Bad Breath
  • Irritability/ mood swings

You see all of the extreme detoxes work for a while, but they do not solve the problems that cause the need for these severe detoxes. You effectively just cut off the weed instead of rooting it out and each time it becomes more and more effort to detox.

It would be far better to solve the cause of the high toxin levels in your body, rather than getting trapped in a cycle of detoxification and toxification on a constant basis.

Let’s start at the beginning.

What does it mean to detox? In essence a detox is the process of removing toxins from your body. Toxins (substances that are harmful to our bodies) enter through our food, our drinks and through the air that we breathe.

What are we to do?

If you were to compare your body to your home, then you would agree that daily living dirties your home, and while you can take  precautions to minimise your home getting dirty from daily living, it remains impossible to avoid some dirt from entering your home. The key is however to clean your home regularly, rather than allowing dirt to collect and assemble all over. You do not want to end up on an episode of Buried Alive, right?

Our bodies are the same way. We have several systems and organs in our bodies that are designed to get rid of toxins on a daily basis. The problem is that often we overload our bodies with toxins faster than what our bodies can cleanse themselves…. It’s kind of like the never ending story of the laundry basket, it never seems to be empty, as quickly as you empty it, it gets filled again.

It starts with a decision…

It is only when you make a conscious decision to

  1. reduce the number of toxins that enter your body and
  2. purposefully give your body the tools to cleanse itself

that you will get ahead in the detoxification process. It is like taking your house and thoroughly cleaning it one room at a time, rather than trying to embark on a full scale disruptive cleaning spree that leaves you feeling depleted and exhausted.

By detoxing daily, you will experience less severe side effects, you will feel your energy levels immediately increase, as opposed to feeling rather drained during a major detox. Detoxing daily becomes an essential part of your lifestyle, instead of a disruption. I mean who really has one day a month that you can set aside to sit on the toilet as your salt water flush does it’s thing… the kids don’t stop needing you and the household does not come to a screeching halt because you need to spend a few extra hours with your beautiful behind stuck to the porcelain throne.

INSIDE PEEK INTO THE LIFE OF A MOM: Currently my bathroom schedule is dictated by the nap and feeding times of a 11 week old little human being. And apparently there is this invisible sensor that has been installed that causes our otherwise content little guy to scream every time my buttocks connect with the toilet seat.

The effects of Toxins on our bodies:

Most of our absorption of nutrients takes place in our small intestines and on the inside of our small intestines we have finger like protrusions called villi. Toxins can cause these villi to be paralysed, or to sick together, thus causing your body to absorb less water, less nutrients etc.

When our bodies are deficient of certain nutrients it alerts us by means of certain cravings. For this reason when we have cleaner digestive systems, our cravings are reduced. When our bodies are able to absorb more water we tend to have less headaches, muscle aches and other aches and pains because our bodies are properly hydrated.

Villi that are not working properly will also cause the contents of your intestines to move along your digestive tracts more slowly than it should. This causes constipation and feeling bloated. By taking care of your digestive health, you can reduce these symptoms.

How to get started:

  1. You need to scrub your intestines daily… using FIBER

As an adult you need to be taking in at least 30g of fiber daily. Now to give you an idea, 2 slices of wholewheat bread gives you about 6,5g of fiber. A single banana only gives you approx. 1.4g of fiber and a standard smoothie gives you only 1,5g of fiber. I don’t know about you, but between extra mural schedules, changing nappies, and remembering to buy toilet paper I do not have the time to still count my fiber intake. I also can not think of a single mom (working or not) who has time to make a whole wheat sandwich, and a smoothie and still have a additional fruit in the mornings. And then you have only reached about 1/3 of your fiber intake.

It is for this reason that I am absolutely in love with this Multi Fiber drink. You can watch the video to learn all about it. It has made my life so much easier. I add one scoop to my morning breakfast and a second scoop to my afternoon drink. Problem solved!!

This particular multi fiber drink also helps to trap saturated fats before they are absorbed by your body.

  1. Flush Your System with water…

Drink more water. At least 1L for every 30kg of body weight. No coffee and tea does not count… you actually need to have an extra glass of water for every cup of tea or coffee that you consume during the day.

You can not sip your water either and think it is going to flush your system. Have you ever tried rinsing a dirty face cloth under a dripping tap? It is like trying to put an excited 4 year old to bed on Christmas eve… it is nearly impossible! So pretend that you are a 20 something at the local pub and DOWN that glass of municipal lemonade!

I am one who often gets bored with the taste of just water, so for this reason I just love healthy additives like this Aloe Concentrate. It heals your body. The potentially harmful aloin has been removed, so you can have as much of it as you want!
